Ramon Valdez and his cousin and most trusted soldier, Luis Valdez, were dressed in business suits. They were on a jet crossing over the Grand Canyon, and he thought about how beautiful one of the seven natural wonders of the world was. It was evening, and the sun was casting a glow over the reddish and brown rocks of land that was dug out by glaciers many years ago during the ice age.

“What are you thinking about?” Luis asked.

“Revenge, my cousin, revenge.”

“Do you think he will meet with us?”

“I know he will. He craves revenge just as much as I do, and I’m going to hand him LaTanza on a platter. All he has to do is trust me.”

“I have to admit, I didn’t think Emilia was going to go along with your plan.”

“She’s a whore. Whores work for profit, and any woman who can sell herself to any man for a few dollars, can certainly set up a man for money. Especially, a man who wants her dead.”

The plane jumped a bit from turbulence. Ramon noticed Luis clutching his armrest and thought about how his cousin didn’t care too much for flying. Luis said, “How did the woman plant the bug in LaTanza’s car?”

“It’s Chacho’s car, so she bugged the right one, it’s just that LaTanza uses his limo to go to the capital city to shop. Emilia’s friend from the call girl service planted the bug in the backseat while on her knees giving Chacho head. She said his eyes were rolled so far back in his head, he hadn’t noticed when she took the bug out of her bra and stuck it under the seat.”

After meeting with Emilia for the first time, Ramon put on the charm. He had her stay at his estate that night they had dinner. Ramon always felt that women who turned to prostitution had issues deeper that what was on the surface, and Emilia was no different. She had been raped by an uncle, a cousin and a stepfather, all at separate times and more than once. Ramon later found that no man had ever told her that he loved her, and that led her to believe that there was no such thing. When he asked her about her boyfriend, she told him that’s exactly what he was, a boy, not a man. Just someone who she had to fill a void. Emilia had been at Ramon’s for two weeks, and he hadn’t tried to sleep with her. He’d taken her shopping for clothes and jewelry, and they dined at his home, food cooked by his top-notch chef.
